Today is Father’s Day in The United States…
Three cheers! A day to celebrate US fathers.
There are different days, in different parts of the world, that do much the same.
Recognizing fathers – all those men or women who provide fathering – is an opportunity to say thank you.
And a chance to model ourselves on the best of what we see.
To our biological fathers… without you our lives wouldn’t exist. Thank you.
To our nurturing fathers…the love, care and protection you provided gave us paths to follow and steps to take. Thank you.
To our universal father (no religion intended)…what you have given us is life, and the steps to follow towards the top of the stairs. Thank you.
To all of you doing fathering, seen or unseen. I wish you a happy Fathers Day.
Your contributions are appreciated – one step, one father, at a time
Have fun,
Jim

Very thoughtful and well written! I love the idea of including women who do the job of Fathering. A big salute to all Fathers who have taken the time and had the strength to be sometime worth modeling. Thank you to my Dad and all the other good Dads out there. You’ve made good children and that helps to make a good world. Peace!
I appreciate this take on the different roles a father might play. Gave me food for thought…who are the father figures that fit in each camp and how do I feel their presence?
Ron, Thank you. Your thoughts are always so welcome here! Biological fathers deserve credit – and divorce, death and desertion get a lot of credit for challenging others to father. Recognition that’s well deserved. Pass on my belated father’s day greetings to your dad. I think you’re right about the good children, can’t help but observe they make themselves, but it’s fun to help. Peace indeed, Jim
Hi Rebecca, Welcome and thank you for your comment. I’m happy you got food for thought … may its yield be yummy. If it’s something you can share, please do. It’s a pleasure to meet someone from Colorado … and someone who lives on the side of a Grand Mesa! In LA there are not so many mesas. I visited your alteredspaces and loved the vision of little alters. Nicely done. Say hi to Ode Yedder. Have Fun, Jim
Hi D, I’m so happy to see you at tossly. I love your comments … and your writing. Father’s day was good. This post you commented on popped out, and I liked sharing it. Patty and I had a peaceful day around the house and then went to Malibu for dinner… sat in a window booth and saw the sunset and schools of dolphins swimming north up the coast. Very cool. Sad a little bit too, it was the first time no kids were home. I heard from them but I missed them. Letting go is a big step in raising a family but it goes so quickly. Makes us better – expands our capacities for love and nurturing and raising and letting go … very cool indeed. Thanks for stopping by my friend, Have Fun, Jim
